FAQs
Before the Interview
Tell me more about the StoryQ approach.
At StoryQ, we believe everyone has a story worth telling—even if they don't know where to start. Our science-based method creates a judgment-free space for self-reflection through private, guided interviews. The result is a powerful personal documentary that captures your voice, your values and your perspective.
Who is the ideal subject for a StoryQ interview?
Anyone who thinks they don’t have a story to tell. We work with people of all ages and backgrounds, including those:
Going through life transitions or milestones
Processing grief or loss
Wanting to capture life experiences for legacy or gifting
Seeking clarity, closure or self-understanding
Is this appropriate for older adults or someone grieving?
Yes. StoryQ can offer comfort, reflection and connection during tender or transitional times.
Why am I hesitant?
It’s totally normal. Many people feel nervous about being vulnerable or not knowing what to say. But most walk away feeling empowered, relieved and proud.
Can I get the questions in advance?
Yes. We can provide a general outline, though we recommend not scripting your answers. Honest, unrehearsed moments are usually the most powerful.
Can I gift a StoryQ session to someone else?
Absolutely! StoryQ makes a meaningful and memorable gift for birthdays, graduations, retirements, memorials or just because.
During the Interview
Who conducts the interview?
Each session is led by one trusted Personal Story Mentor—not a full crew—so you can feel at ease and fully present.
How long does the process take?
Most interviews last 60–90 minutes. Final videos are typically delivered within 4–6 weeks depending on the scope. We'll stay in close contact throughout.
What kind of questions do you ask?
Every interview is custom-tailored to your story and comfort level. Our framework is designed to gently draw out reflections and moments that matter most to you.
Is this like therapy?
No. StoryQ is not therapy, though it can feel therapeutic. It’s a guided conversation designed to help you reflect and make meaning, not diagnose or treat.
What if I get emotional during the interview?
That’s more than okay—it’s welcome. There’s space for all emotions. You can pause, take a breath, skip or revisit any question.
Why don’t you use a full film crew?
Because real storytelling needs real safety. A quiet, private setting allows for deeper reflection and more genuine moments.
After the Interview
What will I receive?
A professionally edited digital video capturing your story in your own voice. Optional extras include transcripts, captions, or custom edits for events, gifts or legacy.
Who gets to see the interview?
Only those you choose. Your mentor is bound by confidentiality and nothing is shared without your review and approval.
Can I include photos, music, or keepsakes?
Yes! You’re welcome to incorporate family photos, letters, artwork, music or other personal touches into your final video.
Can I do this more than once?
Definitely. Many people return to capture new chapters in their story. We also offer multi-year packages for families and youth.
